LOS ANGELES, CA– The San Diego Padres (44-46) ended an eight-game slide thanks to a three-run blast by Manny Machado against his old team en route to a  5-2 victory against the Los Angeles Dodgers (60-32) at Dodger Stadium.

J.P. Sears (2-1) dazzled on the mound, striking out five while throwing five scoreless innings. Sears was throwing a no-hitter until a Miguel Rojas single in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Padres manager Craig Stammen was ejected three pitches into the game for arguing from the dugout. The ejection jolted his struggling squad, which put up five runs off of eight hits in the game.

Los Angeles Dodgers #17 Shohei Ohtani (DH) had a RBI in the the top of the seventh inning after hitting a single to center field that allowed Kyle Tucker (RF) to score. This Photo is by Rashad Griffin/TGSportstv1 July 5, 2026.

Machado blew the game wide open, smashing a 407-foot three-run blast, giving the Padres a 5-0 lead in the top of the seventh inning. Mason Miller came in to shut the door on the Dodgers in the bottom of the ninth inning, picking up his 22nd save, the second most in the majors.

Emmet Sheehan (4-6) only gave up one run in his 4 1/3 innings, but the Dodger bullpen collapse doomed them from having any chance at mounting a comeback. The win was huge for a struggling Padres team, looking to turn its fortunes around before the All-Star Break.

“You just have to win after the losing streak,” said Stammen. “Whenever that win happens, it’s a big win.”

The Dodgers will try to rebound tomorrow against the Colorado Rockies (37-54), as Eric Lauer (4-5, 4.81 ERA) takes the mound for the Boys in Blue at Dodger Stadium.
