WOODLAND HILLS, CA - The Los Angeles Rams spent Friday’s practice with high energy and a clear focus on Sunday’s matchup with the Arizona Cardinals, as head coach Sean McVay sounded optimistic about moving past a 37-34 overtime loss to the Buffalo Bills.

The Bills game came down to a single special teams play. In overtime, Rams kicker Harrison Mevis had a 48-yard field goal attempt blocked, giving Buffalo the ball. Bills QB Josh Allen then led them down the field to set up Tyler Bass for a 45-yard game-winning field goal.

The Rams cut Mevis after the game and signed kicker Blake Grupe, who has been in the league since 2023. An undrafted free agent out of Arkansas State, Grupe has spent time with the Saints, Colts and Jets, most recently on the Jets’ practice squad before becoming a free agent.

McVay expressed confidence in the move on Friday. “I do feel confident based on what I’ve seen, and his experience to put him out there and go execute at a high level for us,” McVay said.

Asked about stringing together wins after the loss, McVay pointed to the team’s approach. “We’ve been in these situations before, and the only way we’ve done that is by winning the day. One day, one play at a time, and I truly believe that,” he said.

The Rams will have a chance to put that into practice against an Arizona team that comes in at 1-4. The Cardinals are also looking to rebound after a loss to the Green Bay Packers. Kickoff is Sunday, Oct. 18, at 1:05 p.m. at SoFi Stadium.
