Colorado Beats USC 72-62 at their Home Season Opener

1/1/21 LOS ANGELES, Ca - The USC Trojans (5-1) had to postpone and cancel several games due to the Cov-19 Pandemic, won on Tuesday night against Santa Clara with a 86-63 victory, but loss their Pac-12 Conference season opener 72-62 at the Galen Center to the Colorado Buffaloes (6-2) on Christmas Eve.

Evan Mobley (F) leads the Trojans in scoring, averaging 17.5 ppg, followed by Thaj Eaddy (G) 11.3 ppg, and Drew Peterson (G) 11.2 ppg. McKinley Wright (G) leads Colorado in scoring, averaging 15.5 ppg.

USC and Colorado were tied 12-12 after a basket by Isaiah Mobley with 13:59 left in the first half. The Buffaloes went on a 7-2 run to increase their lead to 19-14.

The Trojans were down by ten-points 31-21, after back-to-back three-pointers by the Buffaloes Jabari Walker and Keeshawn Barthelemy with 7:35 left in the first half.

The Trojans climb back to get in the game, trail 32-29 after a basket by Isaiah White. Colorado lead at half time by eleven points, 44-33. Evan Mobley led the Trojans scoring with 8-points, Isaiah Mobley 7-points, and Eddy 6-points.

Wright led the Buffaloes in scoring with 11-points, and D'Shawn Schwartz 9-points, and Jariah Horne 8-points. Colorado made 16 of their 33 shots from the field for 53.3 percent, and three-point range 7-13 for 53.8 percent.

USC made 14 of their 31 shots from the field for 45.3 percent and was 4 of 9 from three-point range for 44.4 percent. The Trojans had eight turnovers, and Colorado had six turnovers.

Colorado, with 15:36 left in the game, built a 50-36 lead in the second half when White made a put-back basket. USC cut into Colorado lead 52-43 after a three-point shot by Max Agbonkpolo.

Eddy three-pointer with 9:40 left in the game made the score 57-53, and on the opposite side of the basket at the same time, Evan Battey committed a foul to send Chevez Goodwin to the free-throw line, made both free throws that made the score 57-55.

Colorado led 68-58 when Battey made a basket and was foul on the shot, and made his free throw to complete the and-one. Colorado beat the Trojans by ten-points 72-62 to improve their record to 7-2.

USC head coach Andy Enfield took the blame for playing Evan Mobley, their freshman who transfer from Santa Clara, about playing him in long stretches in the game, but has to play better.

"He struggled a little bit tonight," Enfield said. "But he's a freshman, he's learning. For us to beat a good team, we need better production from everyone on our roster."

Wright led Colorado in scoring with 17-points, Schwartz 13-points, and Battey 11-points. Eaddy led USC in scoring with 16-points, Evan Mobley 12-points, and Isaiah Mobley 9-points.
