1/10/21 SEATTLE, The Los Angeles Rams defense and running game dominated the Seattle Seahawks and came away with a 30-20 victory in their NFC Wild Card Game, and will travel to play the Green Bay Packers.
Cam Akers delivered for the Rams running game, carried the ball 28 times for 131-yards and one touchdown. Jared Goff, who came in for John Wolford in the first quarter after being hit in the neck by Seattle safety Jamal Adams completed 9 of his 19 passes for 155-yards and one touchdown.
Robert Woods had four catches for 48-yards and one touchdown, and the Rams defense sacked Russell Wilson five times. Wilson finished the game, completed 11 of his 27 passes for 174-yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.
The Rams led 3-0 in the first quarter after Matt Gay kicked a 40-yard field goal. The Seahawks tied the game 3-3 in the second quarter when Jason Myers kicked a 50-yard field goal. Gay kicked a 39-yard field goal, and the Rams regained the lead 6-3.
The play of the game came when Wilson threw attempted a pass for a wide-receiver screen to the left side of the field, was intercepted by the Rams left-side cornerback Darius Williams, and return it for a 42-yard touchdown that made the score 13-3. Williams credit making the play with Jalen Ramsey covering Metcalf, and he saw the same formation the last time they played Seattle.
"I saw it a couple of times, I think we got it last week. With Jalen Ramsey being as dominant as he is, they have to try and move DK Metcalf around to get him away from Jalen and basically feature him. That's a play that I knew was going to happen. I knew that they were going to try and feature him and get him the ball somehow, let him break tackles. And I just ran and jumped it."
DK Metcalf was frustrated that Wilson did not throw him the football earlier in the game, was able to break free from Jalen Ramsey while Russell was scrambling being chase by Aaron Donald, saw him, and threw a 51-yard touchdown pass to him made the score 13-10.
The Rams would score again after Cam Akers scored on a 5-yard touchdown run that gave them a 20-10 lead at halftime. The only score of the third quarter was when Myers kicked a 52-yard field goal that made the score 20-13.
Gay would kick a 36-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, increasing the Rams lead to 23-13. Jared Goff threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Robert Woods that gave the Rams a seventeen-point lead, 30-13.
Woods, touchdown seemed to suck the life out of the Seahawks, and the Rams could taste victory in their mouths. The Rams defense had the Seahawks off-balance all during the game.
Metcalf would score his second touchdown of the game with 2:28 left in the game after Russell threw a 12-yard touchdown pass that made the final score 30-20.
After the game, the Rams head coach Sean McVay talked about how big it was to have Cam Akers healthy for their NFC Wild Card Game against Seattle.
"He was huge. I thought Jared Goff's best play of the day was on the third down where he stepped up, slide in the pocket, and found Cam for the explosive. You see what a great athlete Cam is. He's tough. I thought he was really getting into a rhythm early on in the game. It was big. We were able to control the time of possession, able to just eat up yards a little bit at a time. He's a special player, he's really tough. I love the way Malcolm Brown came in and churned out some tough yards as well."
The Rams (10-6) will travel to take on Aaron Rogers and the Green Bay Packers (13-3), who had a first-round bye in the playoffs. If the Rams continue to run the ball well, and the defense played the way they did in Seattle and take care of the football, they can beat Green Bay. #larams #seahawks #nfcwildcardgame #aarondonald #johnwolford #russellwilson #dariuswilliams #nflplayoffs #tgsportstv1
