UCLA Women’s Basketball Earn Their First PAC-12 Victory Against Washington 63-48.

1/15/22 WESTWOOD, CA - UCLA Women's Basketball Team (6-4, Pac-12, 1-1) had a conference matchup tonight at Pauley Pavilion against the Washington Huskies (5-4, Pac-12, 0-1) and came away with a 63-48 victory.


IImari Thomas finished with 28-points, 12 in the fourth quarter, Jaelynn Penn 14-points, and Charisma Osborne with 11-points to pace the Bruins.


Both teams came out playing stellar defense in the first quarter. Washington's Alexis Whitefield ended the quarter with a bucket to give Washington a 9-7 advantage at the end of the quarter.


UCLA struck first in the second quarter with a three-pointer by Thomas. Washington's Hayley Van Dyke came back with a bucket and a free throw to put Washington up 12-10.


The Bruins, with two good defensive possession, caused two shot-clock violations against the Huskies.

Washington's went up 18-17 on Horvat's two free throws, moments after Van Dyke scored her eighth point of the quarter.


Both teams traded buckets in the last minute, with Peterson ending the quarter with a buzzer-beating jump shot to put Washington up 27-24 at halftime.

Van Dyke began the third quarter with five quick points to give Washington an early 32-30 lead. Thomas, with a nice jump-hook, in the post, gave UCLA a 34-32 lead, with 4:50 in the quarter.


Jaelynn Penn put the Bruins up 40-35 with a jump shot with about two minutes to go in the quarter.


UCLA ended the third quarter with a 13-5 run, capped off by a layup by Thomas, a three-pointer by Charisma Osborne gave them a 47-37 lead.


Both teams started slowly in the fourth quarter with only two points each through the first four minutes.


A three-pointer by Washington's Peterson cut the lead to 49-42 with 5:57 left in the quarter.


Thomas, with back-to-back buckets, put the Bruins up 53-42. The Huskies Lauren Schwartz, with her three-point play, made the score 53-45.


The Bruins led 55-45 after Thomas got a rebound and finished the play with a put-back basket, with 3:46 left in the game. UCLA went on to beat the Huskies 63-48.
