1/16/21 LOS ANGELES, Ca - One of the top teams in the Pac-12 Conference, the #25 Washington State Cougars (7-1, Pac-12, 5-1), came into town to take on the USC Trojans (5-5, Pac12, 3-5) at the Galen Center, and loss in overtime 81-77.
USC's leading scorers were Jordan Sanders with 24-points, Endyia Rogers with 16-points, and Angel Jackson and Jordan Jenkins both had 12-points. Charlisse Leger-Walker led Washington State in scoring with 29-points, and her sister Krystal-Leger Walker 23-points.
The Trojans led 6-4 in the first quarter, after a layup by Jordyn Jenkins. The Cougars had back-to-back three-pointers made by Johanna Teder, and Krystal Leger-Walker made the score 10-6.
The Cougars led at the end of the first quarter 14-12, with Krystal Walker leading all scorers with 7-points, followed by the Trojans' Jordan Sanders with 6-points.
The Trojans regained the lead at the start of the second quarter when Alissia Pili nailed a three-point shot making the score 15-14. The Cougars would lead 24-22 after a three-point basket by Cherylyn Molina with 4:49 left in the first half.
The Trojans trail at halftime 33-29. The leading scorers for the Trojans in the first half were Sanders 10-points and Jenkins 6-points. Krystal Walker led the Cougars with 10-points and Cherlisse Walker7-points.
USC made 11 of 27 shots from the floor, 40.0 percent, and Washington State made 12 of 34 shots from the floor, 35.3 percent. The Trojans committed eight-turnovers, and the Cougars had seven-turnovers.
In the third quarter, the Trojans trailed the Cougars 41-35 after a layup by Jordan. USC tied the game 41-41 after a basket by Jordan Sanders. The Trojans took the lead 46-44 after a post-up layup by Jenkins with 1:50 left in the quarter.
USC's Sanders went to work on offense to help lead the Cougars by five points at the end of the third quarter, 49-44, after Sanders made three free throws.
In the fourth quarter, the Trojans defense clamped down on the Cougars offense and led by twelve points 58-46 after another basket by Sanders. Angel Jackson gave the Trojans a 62-50 lead with her layup with 4:50 left in the game.
The Cougars didn't go away and scrapped to get back in the game, trail by five points 62-57, after a hustle play and basket by Ula Motuga with 1:56 left in the game.
Krystal Walker, with 1:08 left in the game, had the Cougars down by two-points 64-62 after making a three-point shot. Charlisse Walker tied the game 64-64 with 5 seconds left in the game.
The Trojans dodged a bullet when the Cougars stole the ball on the other end of the court, and ran down the floor but couldn't get a good shot off, and the game went into overtime.
Endyia Rogers gave the Trojans the first lead in overtime 66-64 with her layup. The Trojans led 77-72 after Rogers made back-to-back baskets with 24 seconds left in the game.
Charlisse made a three-pointer that made the score 77-75 with 12 seconds left in the game. Angel Jackson made two free throws to help the Trojans knock off the #25 rank Cougars in overtime 81-77 overtime.
