10/22/19 LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Clippers, season home opener against the Los Angeles Lakers will go down as one of the greatest seasonal home opener games in NBA history with the Clippers winning Game 1 of the series 112-102.

Paul George didn't play for the Clippers rehabbing from surgery for his shoulders injuries and the Lakers Rajon Rondo out with a right calf injury, and Kyle Kuzman out with a foot injury.

Kawhi Leonard led the Clippers in scoring with 30-points, Lou Williams 23-points, and Montrezl Harrell 17-points. The Lakers' Danny Green led his team in scoring with 28-points, Anthony Davis 25-points, and LeBron James 18-points.

"It's just the first game of the season, so it's going to take the season and mistakes and success to get us on the same page," Leonard said.

In the first quarter, the Lakers jumped out on the Clippers 13-2 with a layup by Davis as the Lakers' fans got loud. The Clippers' Lou Williams and Montreal Harrell energized their teammates coming off the bench, started their 20-12 run with a monster dunk by Harrell, as the Clippers trail the Lakers at the end of the quarter 25-22.

Leonard gave the Clippers their first lead of the game 27-25 in the second quarter, after his jump shot, followed by his three-pointer. The Clippers outscored the Lakers 40-29 going into halftime leading 62-54.

"It's a great sign of leadership," coach Doc Rivers said. "He talks with his game."

In the third quarter, the Lakers were down by 14 points rally behind Danny Green's fifth three-point shot for 18-points, and a three-pointer by JaMychal Green tied the game 85-85 heading into the fourth quarter.

Patrick Beverly and Montrezl Harrell continue to be the players that set the tone for the Clippers on defense frustrating James and Davis in the second half.

In the fourth quarter, the Clippers went on a 19-7 run to take a 104-92 lead. James and Davis both were not a factor down the stretch. James committed some costly turnovers. Green shined with his outside shooting to keep the Lakers in striking distance, still wasn't enough as the Clippers' defense clamped down and held the Lakers to 17 points in the fourth, falling to the Clippers 112-102.

The Clippers bench was the best in the NBA last season don't be surprised with JaMychal Green14-points, Moe Harkness 10-points, Ivica Zubac 8-point, and the others are the best bench this season.

Even though it was the first game of the season, and the game lived up to all the hype, both the Lakers (0-1) and the Clippers (1-0) have a lot of things to improve.

"The NBA is back and everyone's trying to have the narrative of it's a rivalry game and it's a huge test," James said, "but I think both teams are not where they want to be. We have a lot of room to improve."
