10/23/21 LOS ANGELES, CA – Paul George scored 41-points as the Los Angeles Clippers (0-2) hosted the Memphis Grizzlies (2-0) for the season home opener loss 120-114 at the Staple Center.

The Clippers starting five were Reggie Jackson (PG), Eric Bledsoe (SG), Paul George (SG), Ivica Zubac (C), and Marcus Morris Sr (SF).

The Grizzlies went with Ja-Maront (PG), Desmond Bane (SG), DeAnthony Melton (SG), Steven Adams (C), and Jaren Jackson Jr. (PF).

The Clippers seem to be a step slower than the Trail Blazers had problems keeping up and getting back on defense.

“The emphasis needs to get back [defensively], especially against these fast teams,” George said. “I think we’re still getting out of preseason mode.”

The Clippers led the Grizzlies at the end of the first quarter, 34-25, with George scoring 10-points, followed by Jackson and Luke Kennard, both with 8-points. Bane led the Grizzlies with 8-points and Morant with 7-points.

The Clippers led 48-42 in the second quarter after a jump shot by Terrance Mann. Reggie Jackson pushed the Clippers lead up to 52-43 with a floater in the key.

DeAnthony Melton had the Grizzlies down by one point, 60-59, but Jackson's jump shot at the buzzer made the score 62-59 at halftime.

George was fouled on his shot attempt and made both of his free throws that made the score 111-108, and the Grizzlies called a timeout.

The Clippers were within two points of the Grizzlies 116-114 but came up short and lost 120-114. George led the Clippers in scoring with 41-points, Jackson 17-points, Bledsoe 12-points, and Hartenstein 11-points.
