49ers run away from the Rams with a 31-10 victory

11/15/21 SANTA CLARA, CA - The Los Angeles Rams (7-2) traveled to Northern California to take on their NFC West rivals, the San Franciso 49ers (3-5), hoping to remain one game behind the Arizona Cardinals (8-2), came up short losing big 31-10 on Monday Night Football.

Matthew Stafford for the Rams completed 26 of his 41 passes for 243-yards, one touchdown, and one interception. Cooper Kupp had eleven catches for 122-yards.

The 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo threw the football 19 times completed 15 of his passes for 182-yards and two touchdowns. Deebo Samuel was the leading receiver for the 49ers with five catches for 97-yards and one touchdown.

“This was a humbling night for us as a team, and a great opportunity for us to be able to take a deep breath, step away, look at the things that we need to correct, particularly offensively over the last couple of weeks,” coach Sean McVay said.

Matthew Stafford, in the first quarter, threw his first to Odell Beckham for five yards. Moments later, Stafford threw a pass to Beckham that was intercepted by the 49ers free-safety Jimmie Ward.

The 49ers took advantage of the turnover scored when Jimmy Garoppolo threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to George Kittle to take a 7-0 lead.

The Rams had another turnover when Tyler Higbee dropped a pass from Stafford, bounced into the hands of Ward, ran it back for a 27-yard touchdown making the score 14-0.

Higbee made up for his turnover by scoring a 10-yard touchdown catch from Stafford in the second quarter, making the score 14-7.

The 49ers responded to the Rams' score with another long drive of 91-yards capped off by an 8-yard touchdown catch by wide-receiver Deebo Samuel from Garoppolo, making the score 21-7 with 5:24 left before halftime.

The Rams went with a fake punt and came up short by one yard for the first down, giving the ball back to San Francisco with 12 seconds left in the first half. The 49ers led the Rams at halftime 21-7.

The 49ers increased their lead to 24-7 after Robbie Gould kicked a 50-yard field goal to end in the third quarter.

Samuel and the 49ers would score again in the fourth quarter after catching a 40-yard touchdown pass from Garoppolo made the score 31-7. Matt Gay would kick a 37-yard field goal for the Rams, made the final score 31-10.

The Rams have a bye week to look at film and figure out how to get things turned around if they want to make it to the Super Bowl. Their next game will be on the road against the Green Bay Packers.
