Waves Come Crashing Down in 91-84 Loss to the Trojans

11/19/19 LOS ANGELES, CA The Pepperdine Waves (3-1) from the WCC Conference came to the Galen Center and gave the USC Trojans (4-1) in the Pac-12 Conference all they could handle in a 91-84 loss led by guard Colbey Ross 38-points,13-20 shooting and 6 of 10 from three-point range, followed by Kameron Edwards 18-points.

The Trojans Onyeka Okongwu continues to be the workhorse of the team scored 33-points, Nick Rakocevic 16-points, eleven rebounds, six assists, Jonah Mathews 16-points, and Isaiah Mobley 14-points.

In the first half, USC found themselves down by ten-points 21-11 after a basket by Skylar Chavez. The Trojans' defense clamped down on the Waves' offense trail by one-points 30-29, after made free-throws by Ethan Anderson with 5:14 left in the half.

The Trojans regained the lead 32-31 after a made three-point basket by Anderson. USC went on a 12-6 run to close out the first half leading 44-37.

The Waves' Colbey Ross led all players in scoring with 16-points. The Trojans' frontcourt of Okongwu 15points, Rakocevic 10 points, and Mobley size made the difference closing out the half. USC outscored Pepperdine in the paint 22-12 and 11-6 on fastbreak points.

"If we get that productivity out of our three bigs, even close to it, we're going to be pretty good," USC head coach Andy Enfield said.

In the second half, USC pulled away from Pepperdine led by twelve-points 73-61 after a free-throw by Isaiah Mobley with 9:12 left in the game.

The Waves refuse to lay down, got the Trojans lead down to four-points 73-69 after a jump shot by Ross. Rakocevic and Okongwu are starting to find their groove together.

“I love playing with Nick,” Okongwu said. “He takes the pressure off me and I take the pressure off him.”

The Trojans would go on 14-9 run to take 87-78 lead with 1:03 left in the game when Rakocevic made two free-throws. USC down the stretch just outman Pepperdine and secure their 91-84 victory to improve their record to (5-0) and the Waves (3-2).
