The Trojans beat CSUN 89-49 with fans for the first time at the Galen Center

11/9/21 LOS ANGELES, CA - The USC Trojans had their first preseason game at home in the Galen Center, with screaming fans, had a dominant and impressive win against the CSUN Matadors 89-49.

Boogie Ellis played his first game as a Trojans, scored 20-points, Isaiah Mobley 15-points, and Drew Peterson with 14-points. The top scorers for the Matadors were Atin Wright and Darius BrownII, both with 10-points.

“It was a good opening win. We played hard, we shared the ball, and we had 1,000 students show up early, which was nice to see,” said USC coach Andy Enfield, who admittedly had little to critique as he starts his ninth season at the helm. “It’s hard to pick apart a game where you block six shots, get eight steals, scored 52 points in the paint, scoring 20 points off turnovers, and hold the other team to 49 points. We built the lead on defense, and the effort was there for 40 minutes. We have 13 scholarship players, and they all played.”

Isaiah Mobley scored the first three points for the Trojans to take a 3-0 lead. Drew Peterson's tip-in basket gave USC a 9-2 lead. The Trojans jumped out on the Matadors 13-4 with a dunk by Mobley.

The Matadors trail the Trojans 13-6 after a layup by Elijah Hardy. CSUN was trailing USC 17-13 after a three-pointer by Boogie Ellis. Peterson made a three-pointer to give the Trojans an eleven point lead 24-13

The Trojans went on a 6-2 run, capped off by a three-point shot by Mobley now, led 30-15 with 8:47 left in the first half. USC increased their lead to 37-15 after a layup by Ethan Anderson.

Joshua Morgan's dunk gave the Trojans a 52-19 lead at halftime. Boogie Ellis led the Trojans in scoring in the first half with 15-points, followed by Mobley's 13-points and Peterson's 10-points. Hardy led the Matadors with 6-points and Darius Brown II 5-points.

The Matadors trail the Trojans 64-34 in the second half after a baby-hook shot by Christain Gay. Mobley made a put-back basket to give the Trojans a 72-38 lead, with 8:28 left in the game.

Reese Dixon-Waters jump shot made the score 78-45 with 4:55 left in the game. Peterson spin move, turn around jump shot increased the Trojans lead to-80-45.

The Trojans closed out the quarter on a 9-4 run to give them their first when of the season, 89-49, dominated points in the paint 52-20, 11 of 13 from the free-throw line, and committed 10 turnovers, and look to having another great season.
