UCLA Scores 21 points off turnovers to beat USC 73-52

12/13/20 LOS ANGELES, Ca - The USC Trojans' first game in the Pac-12 Conference was against their cross-town rival, the UCLA Bruins, and they lost their conference opener 73-52 at the Galen Center. The turnovers and UCLA points in the paint were just too much for the Trojans to overcome.


USC with a record of (1-2) lost two close games back-to-back, against Arizona State 63-58, and Arizona 78-77. The Trojans leading scorers are Endyia Rogers (G) 16.0 ppg, Angel Jackson (C)14.0 ppg, and Amaya Oliver (F) 11.0 ppg.


UCLA was leading USC 21-9 in the first quarter, after a layup by Michaela Oyenwere. USC trail UCLA 27-18 at the end of the quarter, after a basket by Desiree Cadwell.


The Trojans were hanging close in the second quarter 33-22 after a jump shot by Rodgers. The Bruins led by twelve-points 42-30 at halftime. Cadwell led the Trojans in scoring with 8-points, Jordan Sanders with 7-points, and Jackson 6-points.


Charisma Osbourne led the Bruins in scoring with 16-points, and Natalie Chou 8 points. The Trojans shot poorly from the three-point line, making only 3 of 12 shots, compared to the Bruins's 7 of 15. The turnovers were about even, UCLA 7, and USC 8.


UCLA had a twenty-point lead in the third quarter 51-31 after a basket by Osbourne. The Bruins went on a 9-2 run to lead the Trojans 60-33 after a basket by Oyenwere. USC trail UCLA at the end of the third quarter 62-35.


The Bruins had a 68-44 lead in the fourth quarter with 4:10 left in the game after a basket by Chantel Horvat. UCLA went on to beat USC 73-52 to get their fifth win of the season.


"I wasn't pleased with the way we took care of the basketball with our turnovers that led to twenty-one points for UCLA, "USC head coach Mark Trakh said. "We have Stanford next Saturday so we got to forget about this game and get ready for the next."


The leading scorers for the Trojans were Jordan Sanders 12 points, Cadwell 11 points, and Rodger 8 points. The Bruins were led in scoring by, Onyenwere 19 points, Osbourne 18 points, and Chou 10 points.


UCLA scored 21 points off of USC turnovers and scored 21 points in the paint. USC only scored 7 points off of UCLA turnovers and was outscored in the paint 26 to 18 points.
