12/27/20 LONG BEACH, Ca - The Long Beach State Women's Basketball team (2-1, 1-0 Big West) played their Big West Conference season opener at the Walter Pyramid Arena and defeated the UC Riverside Highlanders (1-2, 0-1 Big West) 74-44.
Long Beach State's leading scorers were Naomi Hunt 20 points, Mai'Qhi Berry 14 points, and Justina King 11 points. Keilanei Cooper led the Highlanders in scoring with 19 points and Jordan Webster 11 points.
The Highlanders shot poorly in the first quarter, made only 2-11 shots, and were down 21-8 to the Beach. Hunt had 7 of the twenty-one points.
During the second quarter, the Beach went on a 13-9 run to lead at halftime 34-17. Hunt scored more points in the second quarter, and Berry had 7 points. Copper had 7 points for the Highlanders.
The Highlanders made 6-22 shots from the field and were 2-14 from three-point range. The Beach was 14-29 from the floor and 4-8 from the three-point range.
The Beach scored 19 points to end the third quarter leading the Highlanders 53-31. The Highlanders would score only 13 points in the fourth quarter, and the Beach 21 points making the final score 74-44.
The Highlanders made 16 of 49 shots from the field 32.7 percent and from the three-point arch made 4 of 24 shots for16.7 percent. The Beach shot 58.8 from the field after making 29 of their 52 shots and was 9 of14 from three-point range for 64.3 percent.
