UCLA bounces back to beat Oregon State in overtime 83-74

2/17/20 WESTWOOD, CA - The UCLA's Women's Baksetbal Team pulled themselves together to bounced back after losing to the Oregon Ducks 80-66 rank No. 3 in the nationa few days ago, defeated the No.15 rank Oregon State Beavers 83-74 in overtime.


The Bruins senior guard Japreece Dean made NCAA history by scoring 22 points and 12 assists, giving her 1000 points for her career at UCLA. Freshman Charisma Osbourne also scored 22 points, followed by Michaela Onyenwere 16 points and 11 rebounds.


Mikayla Pivec and Destiny Slocum led Oregon State in scoring both with 19 points, Jasmine Simmons 11 points, and Taylor Jones 10 points. Oregon State committed 24 turnovers that led to 23 points for UCLA. The Bruins only committed 9 turnovers in the game.


In the first quarter, both teams were trying to get a feel for one another with the game tied 11-11, with 1:45 left in the quarter. UCLA went on a 5-0 run to end the quarter leading 16-11.


In the second quarter, Dean made history after stealing the ball and making a layup with 9:50 left in the second half leading 18-14. Oregon State took the lead 20-18 after a basket by Simmons with 2:16 on the clock. The Beavers went on a 9-1 run, increasing their lead to 28-19, and led at halftime 31-25.


Late in the third quarter, the Bruins were down by fourteen-points 45-31 after a basket by Simmons. The Bruins defense came to life to help cut the Beavers' lead to six-points 51-45 after a three-point shot by Osbourne. The Beavers led at the end of the quarter by three-points 56-53.

The Bruins tied the game 58-58 in the fourth quarter after a basket by Chantel Horvat. Oregon State led 65-62 before Kiari Jefferson's three-pointer tied the game 65-65 with 3:52 left in the game. UCLA regained the lead 67-65 after another basket by Jefferson with 2:48 left in the game.


The hero of the game for Oregon State was Maddie Washington, whose layup tied the game 67-67, which sent the game into overtime. The Bruins would score first in overtime with a jump shot by Lauryn Miller at the 4:51 mark.


Michaela Onyenwere gave the Bruins a five-point lead 73-68 after making two free throws with 3:42 left in the game. UCLA would push their lead up to eight-points 78-70 after a basket by Osbourne with 2:48 left in overtime.


UCLA's Dean, with 52 seconds left in the game, made two free throws giving the Bruins an 80-70 lead. Washington made a basket for the Beavers that made the score 80-72.


Dean would score again, making a three-point shot that gave the Bruins an 83-72 lead. Slocum would make a jump shot with two seconds left in the game made the score 83-74 as the Bruins held on to win in overtime.
