Clippers Outlast Jazz 116-112 at the Staple Center

2/20/21 LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Clippers (22-9) roster was back at full strength when they hosted the 1st Place Utah Jazz (24-6) on Friday Night. Paul George returned to his squad after missing seven games with a swollen right toe.

Kawhi Leonard missed the last three games as he dealt with a leg injury of his own. The Utah Jazz guard Mike Conley was clear to play in Friday's game after missing the last six games.

The Clippers used their returning stars to beat the Jazz 116-112 putting a halt to their nine-game winning streak. Leonard led the Clippers in scoring with 29-points, Lou Williams 19-points, Patrick Beverly, and Marcus Morris Sr. both with 17-points, and Paul George 15-points.

Donovan Mitchell led the Jazz in scoring with 35-points, Bojan Bogdanovic with 23-points, Jordan Clarkson with 19-points, and Mike Conley with 16-points.

The Clippers led 12-7 in the first with threes by George and Serj Ibaka. Mike Conley kept the Jazz close in the game by scoring 7 points in six minutes while making his first three shots.

Derrick Favors made two free throws that had the Jazz down by three points, 16-13. Lou Williams running jump shot gave the Clippers a 20-15 lead with 3:44 left in the quarter. George made a jump shot right before the buzzer went off to end the quarter, as the Clippers led by eight points, 31-23.

The Clippers extended their lead to fourteen points in the second quarter, 47-33, after Ibaka received a pass from Reggie Jackson and pounded the rim with a slam dunk.

The Jazz kept trying to cut into their deficit, but credit must go to the Clipper offense as they would find ways to capitalize on the Jazz's turnovers. The Clippers would end the first half leading 57-49.

The Jazz rally back in the third quarter trailing by two points, 61-59, after a basket by Conley, and Donovan Micthell's three-pointer had the Jazz leading the Clippers 64-63, with 6:12 left in the quarter.

Kawhi Leonard's Jump shot would tie the game 67-67, with 4:12 left in the quarter. The Jazz regained the lead 69-67 after a step-back jump shot by Bojan Bogdanovic. Leonard made another jump shot to give the Clippers a 77-73 lead. The Clippers led at the end of the quarter 79-75.

Terance Mann's jump shot had the Clippers leading 81-79 in the fourth quarter. The Clippers led 94-88 after a three-pointer by Marcus Morris Sr. off the bench with 6:10 left in the game.

The Jazz was down by two-points, 94-92, after a dunk by Mitchell. Morris Sr. made another three-point shot that pushed the Clippers' lead up to 99-92. Bogdanovic three-pointer had the Jazz down 107-98 with 1:56 left in the game.

The Jazz refused to lay down, with 18.4 left in the game trailing the Clippers by three-point, 110-107 after a three-point shot by Mitchell. After a pair of free throws by both Patrick Beverly and Leonard kept the Jazz at bay, and the Clippers won 116-112.
