3/6/20 LOS ANGELES - College Baseball at it’s best was about to kick-off on Friday Night at Dedeaux Field, in the Southern California Baseball Classic, featuring last year’s NCAA Champions the Vanderbilt Commodores, TCU Horned Frogs, UCLA Bruins, and the USC Trojans.
USC had to battle to the end, and was able knocked off the No. 22 rank TCU Horned Frogs 2-1 with some great pitching by Kyle Hurt for sixth innings, and some great relief pitching by Ethan Hoopingarner to help secure the win for the Trojans.
USC scored in the first inning when Rhylan Thomas led-off with a double, and Jamal O’Guinn hit a single to center-field allowing him to score, and give the Trojans a 1-0. TCU would bounce back in the second inning and tie the game 1-1 when Hurt was tagged by Gene Wood with a lead off homeroom over the center-field wall.
After the solo home room by Hurt, he struck out the next eight batters.The Trojans in the third inning regained the lead after Tyler Lozano got on base, and moments later Ben Ramirez hit a solo down the right side, and Lozano scored making the score 2-1.
Hoopingarner came in the seventh inning for the Trojans to relieve Hurt and keep the Horned Frogs scoreless after giving up a couple off big hits. During the top of the ninth-inning, TCU was threatening to score with runners on first and third with two outs, but Hoopingarner struck out the next batter to secure the win.
With then win, USC improved its record to (8-4) and the TCU record fell to (10-3). The Trojans will play Vanderbilt on Saturday, and then on Sunday, TCU will take on Vanderbilt, and USC will play their cross-town rivals the UCLA Bruins.
