4/10/21 LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Dodgers (6-2) won their home opener against the Washington Nationals (1-3), 1-0, and looking to win the second game of the three-game series. Julio Urias (1-0) took the mound for the Dodgers and Patrick Corbin for the Nationals.
The Dodgers beat the Nationals 9-5 to take the second game of the series, with Julio Urias pitching 5.2 innings, three strikeouts, allowed three runs, and one home run. The Dodgers were without the services of Cody Bellinger and Mookie Betts.
The Nationals led 1-0 in the top of the first inning after Starlin Castro hit a single into right field and Ryan Zimmerman scored. Urias allowed lead-off batter Jordy Mercer to get on base in the top of the second inning retire the next two batters.
Corbin, in the bottom of the second inning, with base-runners on first, second, and third base after walking AJ Pollick. Moments later, Zach McKinstry, starting in right field for Betts, hit a single into right field that scored Max Muncy and AJ Pollick to give the Dodgers a 2-1 lead.
"He's been great," Chris Taylor said about McKinstry. "I think the biggest thing is that he's having fun out there. He's playing with energy, and he's making big plays in the outfield. He's been outstanding out there, just putting good at-bats together. We saw a lot of that last year in the Summer Camp. I thought he was one of our best hitters during Summer Camp last year.
Chris Taylor hit a three-run home run that increased the Dodgers' lead to 5-1. Justin Turner hit a double in the bottom of the fifth inning into center field that scored Corey Seager to give the Dodgers a 6-1 lead.
The Nationals scored again in the top of the sixth inning after Juan Soto hit a home run into right field that made the score 6-2. Yan Gomes hit a single that scored Zimmerman, and the Nationals now trail 6-3.
Jimmy Nelson came in to relieve Urias, got out of a jam with the bases loaded, struck out the next two batters. The Dodgers scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning when Pollick doubled, and Muncy, Turner, and Smith all scored that made the score 9-3.
The Nationals added two more runs in the top of the ninth inning after Soto hit a home run, and Turner came home for the Nationals to make the final score 9-5, and the Dodgers improve their home record to (2-0).
