Angels Crush Twins 10-3 on Jackie Robinson Day

4/16/21 ANAHEIM, CA - The Los Angeles Angels (7-5) hosted the Minnesota Twins (6-7) on a brisk Friday Night game on Jackie Robinson Day. The Angels were victorious by beating the Twins 10-3.

Andrew Heaney (1-1) was the starting pitcher for the Angels, went 5.1 innings, gave up two runs, and had six strikeouts. The Twins had Lewis Thorpe on the mound as their starter, pitched 4.0 innings, gave up two runs, and had two strikeouts.

The Angels scored in the bottom of the fourth inning after Mike Wash's single into center-field that allowed Mike Trout and Justin Upton to cross home plate that made the score 2-0.

The Twins trail 2-2 in the top of the sixth inning, when Mitch Garver doubled down the left-field line and Max Kelper and Jorge Polanco scored. The Angels now trail the Twins 3-2 after Josh Donaldson single into center-field and Garver scored.

Shohei Ohtani doubled in the bottom of the sixth inning that had base runners on second and third base. The Angels regained the lead 4-3, after the Twins' manager Rocco Baldelli decided to pitch to Mike Trout, and brought in the infield, hit a single that allowed David Fletcher and Ohtani to score.

"I felt pretty good about that moment," Maddon said. "They put the three men on that side and he hit it between the two of them in that five-six hole. Listen, he's going to have a lot of those moments forthcoming."

The Angels increased their lead to 9-3 in the bottom of the seventh inning after Justin Upton hit a grand slam over the left-field wall that had the fans buzzing.

"He is a grinder in spite of being this superstar baseball player," Angels manager Joe Maddon said. "He grinds all the time. He's focused and he's ready and wants to be there in those moments."

The next batter for the Angels was Jared Walsh, who hit a solo home run over the right-field fence made the score 10-3.
