White Sox Bounce Back To Beat The Angels 12-8

4/2/21 ANAHEIM, CA - The Los Angeles Angels won their season home opener against the Chicago White Sox 4-3, with Mike Mayers picking up his first win of the season. The White Sox defeated the Angels 12-8.

Andrew Heaney for the Angels and pitched three innings and gave up seven runs, with four strikeouts. Dallas Keuchel took the mound for the White Sox, pitched four innings, gave up six runs, and struck out four.

Shohei Otani hit a triple in the top of the first inning to put the Angels in scoring position. Mike Trout hit a single that allowed Otani to score to give the Angels a 1-0 lead.

Heaney, in the top of the third inning, allowed a base runner to reach third base. He allowed two more runners to get on to load the bases, and Jose Abreu hit a grand slam to give the White Sox a 4-1 lead.

The Sox continued to hit the ball well in the top of the fourth inning and had a runner in scoring position on third bases. Adam Eaton's single allowed Andrew Vaughn to score, making the score 5-1.

Chicago would add to their scoring total 7-1 after Yermin Mercedes hit a single that scored Yasmini Grandal and Adam Eaton.

Mike Trout hit a double to start the bottom of the fourth inning. Albert Pujols hit a two-run home run that had the Angels down 7-4.

Chris Rodriquez came in the game during the top of the fifth inning to relieve Heaney to get the last two outs for the Angels. Keuchel walked the first two batters in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Angels would score two runs when Anthony Redon hit a deep shot into left field that the White Sox's Adam Eaton dropped, and Dexter Fowler and David Flecther both score that made the score 7-6.

The Angels brought in Mike Mayers to relieve Rodriquez in the top of the seventh inning to restore order with runners on first and second base with one out. Mayers retired the next two batters that he faced to close out the inning.

Trout was the first batter up in the bottom of the eighth inning and walked by the White Sox pitcher Michael Kopech. Evan Marshall came in to replace Kopech with no outs in the inning.

Liam Hendriks would come in the game, replacing Marshall with two outs and Jose Iglesias at home plate for the Angels. Tim Anderson hit a solo home run to give the White Sox an 8-6 lead in the top of the ninth inning.

The Angels brought in Steve Cishek to keep the White Sox from scoring any more runs in the inning to give them a chance to win the game in the bottom of the 9th inning.

The White Sox would score two more runs off Cishek after Grandal doubles into center field, and Abreu and Billy Hamiton both score, making the score 10-6.

Things didn't get any better for the Angels, as the White Sox end the inning scoring two more runs after Mercedes doubles into left field, and Grandal and Eaton both scored to give them a 12-6 lead.

The Angels found themselves down by six runs in the bottom of the ninth inning and with one out and Dexter Fowler next. Ohtani at the plate, with two balls and two strikes against him, hit a two-run home run that had the Angels down 12-8, and that would be the final score for the game.
