4/20/22 LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Dodgers (9-3), losing to the Atlanta Braves (6-8) last night 9-3, bounced back today to take two of the three games from the World Champions by winning 5-1.
Tony Gonsolin (1-0) got his first win of the season for the Dodgers after pitching six scoreless innings and three strikeouts.
"Tony was really good," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. "Very helpful, much needed. All three outings have been good. He was really efficient, inducing three double plays, which is huge. He used his fastball the right way, and his breaking stuff was on. He did a heck of a job.
Charlie Morton (1-2) for the Braves pitched 5.1 innings, gave up six hits, four runs, and had three strikeouts.
Mookie Betts led off in the bottom of the first inning with a single to right field. The next batter up, Freddie Freeman, hit a solo home run over the right-field wall to give the Dodgers a 2-0 lead.
"Defense, pitching, offense, that was a well-played game," Freeman said. "It was very pleasing to us to get early runs."
Cody Bellinger doubled to left field to lead off in the bottom of the second inning, but Charlie Morton was able to strike out Mookie Betts, Edwin Rios, and Chris Taylor to ground out.
Edwin Rios hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the Dodgers a 3-0 lead.
The Braves finally got a hit in the top of the sixth inning when Dansby Swanson was safe at first base with a late throw from Max Muncy from the Dodgers.
The Dodgers increased their lead to 4-0 after Will Smith got on base and Bellinger hit a triple into the corner of the right field, and Smith scored in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Justin Turner knocked in Betts in the bottom of the seventh inning with a single to center field to give the Dodgers a 5-0 lead.
The Braves scored their only run and then fell to the Dodgers 5-1 after a solo home run by Marcell Ozuna double into left field, and Matt Olsen came home to score.
