4/22/21 LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Dodgers (14-4) took two of the three-game series against the San Diego Padres (10-10) in San Diego were looking to add to their win total against the visitors at Dodgers Stadium.
Walker Buehler (RHP, 1-0) took the mound for Los Angeles against San Diego's Ryan Weathers (LHP,1-0), and their bullpen held on to beat the Dodgers 3-2 in the first game of the three-game series.
Buehler pitched 7.0 innings, gave up two runs, seven strikeouts, and one home run. Weathers pitched 5.2 innings, gave up one hit, and had six strikeouts.
The Padres scored first in the top of the fourth inning after Manny Machado hit a single and Fernando Tatis Jr. scored to give the Padres a 1-0 lead.
In the top of the sixth inning, the Padres added another run that made the score 2-0, after a home run by Trent Graham.
The Dodgers had a golden opportunity to score runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, but Max Muncy was struck out by the Padres' pitcher Austin Adams.
Aj Pollock hit a solo home run over the left-field wall in the bottom of the seventh inning that had the Dodgers trailing the Padres 2-1. Moments later, the next batter was Sheldon Neuse, who hit a home run over the center-field wall that tied the game 2-2.
The Padres, in the top of the eighth inning, regained the lead 3-2 after Tatis Jr. grounded into a double play at second and first base for the Dodgers that allowed Jurickson Profar to score.
The play of the game was during the bottom of the eighth inning after Will Smith hit a ball that landed on the left-field line and ruled as a foul ball.
After the play was review, the call was reversed and ruled a double for Smith that sent him to second base and Justin Turner to third base.
