Trevor Bauer Shared Cy Young Award Moment With Current and Former Teammates
4/27/21 LOS ANGELES, Ca - On Tuesday night before the Los Angeles Dodgers took on the Cincinnati Reds, pitcher Trevor Bauer received his 2020 NL Cy Young Award at Dodger Stadium. Fitting time to receive the award in front of his former Reds teammates and current Dodger fans.
"It's 10 years of hard work and studying and time," Bauer said. "A lot of really bad games, a lot of tough learning experiences. But when I go and take a picture of it in a second and change my phone background, it'll be a really cool moment."
Bauer is his own motivating force, someone who is always looking to improve on areas of his pitching no matter how good an outing may be, which makes him greater. The former UCLA baseball product who is now closer to his Southern California roots continues the passion and dedication for himself and the team.
"On the personal side of things from an accomplishment standpoint, those are the two things I set out in my baseball career to accomplish," he said. "For a kid who never played on the 'A' tournament team, who was never the best at any level he played at, to have two awards from college and the big leagues that says I was the best for a given period of time is pretty special."
The Dodgers decided to conduct the ceremony in April when the Reds were scheduled to come so that Bauer could celebrate the award with his former team.
"I'm happy DJ was able to be there and present it. We've been friends and have known each other for a long time. I was fortunate enough to be able to finally work with him last year and a little bit in 2019. To have Sonny and Luis and some members of the starting staff, I'm happy it worked out this way, for sure."
He is the first Reds pitcher to win the prestigious award from the Baseball Writers Association Of America (BWAA).
This season Bauer continues to be impactful on the mound, in five games pitched he managed to have a 2.53 ERA, allowing nine earned runs, with 45 strikeouts and 0.66 WHIP.
The Dodgers managed to fall to the Reds 6-5 on Tuesday night despite starter Walker Buehler who truck out ten batters on the mound. For more photos from this game click on the link below. #mlb #trevorbauer #ladodgers #2021cyyoung #cincinnatireds #baseball #walkerbuehler #tgsportstv1
