5/12/21 LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Dodgers (18-17) have struggled after being the most dominant team in baseball early in the season return to Dodgers Stadium to take on the Seattle Mariners (18-17) and came from behind to beat the visitors 6-4
Walker Buehler (RHP,1-0) pitched 7.0 innings for the Dodgers, and had eight strikeouts, and gave up three home runs. Yusei Kikuchi pitched 6.1 innings for the Mariners, eleven strikeouts, and gave up one home run.
Seattle scored in the first inning when Mitch Haniger hit a home run over the center-field fence that made the score 1-0. Kikuchi allowed Corey Seager and Max Muncy to get on base in the bottom of the second inning.
The Dodgers miss a golden opportunity to score some runs but continue to leave runners in scoring position a lot this season and left men on first and second base with no outs.
Beuhler gave up a two-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to Kyle Seager to give Seattle a 3-0 lead. The Mariners could have had scored some more runs but into a double play.
The Dodgers trail the Mariners 3-1 after Max Muncy hit a solo home run over the center-field fence in the bottom of the fourth inning. The next batter Chris Taylor hit a triple deep into right-field with two outs, and the next batter Sheldon Neuse struck out.
Haniger hit another home run in the top of the sixth inning, which gave the Mariners a 4-1 lead. The Dodgers loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning. Corey Seager hit a single into right field that allowed Gavin Lux and Chris Taylor to score that had the Dodgers trailing 4-3.
The way things were going for the Dodgers Blue for seven innings, the possibility of losing their 11th one-run loss game seemed to be looming closer on the horizon.
Gavin Lux hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the eight-inning over the right-field fence that gave the Dodgers the lead 6-4 and the much-needed jolt to jump-start their offense to get a much-needed victory.
Kenley Jensen came in at the top of the ninth inning and shut the door on Seattle to help the Dodgers get the first win of the two-game series and get his sixth save of the year.
"Every win is important, and they all feel good, but they're not created equal, I think," said Dodgers manager Dave Roberts. "Just the way we came back and won a ballgame and how we did it. Gavin has been grinding, and for him to get that big hit was huge for our ball club. Very exciting for him, for all of us."
The Dodgers will have one of their best pitchers take the mound on Wednesday against the Mariners, Julio Urias (LHP,4-1), in hopes of sweeping the series. #mlb #baseball #ladodgers #gavinlux #marinersbaseball #seattlemariners #losangelesdodgers #yuseikikuchi #tgsportstv1
