Julio Urias Continues To Own Mariners
5/13/21 LOS ANGELES, CA - For just the fourth time in his career Julio Urias (5-1) pitched into the seventh inning looking as dominant as ever, as the Dodgers destroyed the Seattle Mariners 7-1 on Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium.
"I felt like my fastball wasn't clicking as well as the changeup," Urías said through a translator postgame. "I was able to use my changeup and slurve."
Urias's six strikeouts came in the first four innings, as he sat down his first 13 batters. He only allowed a pair of singles that turned into one scored run for the Mariners. Three pitches were really working for him all night and stuck the script on the mound.
"I felt like my fastball wasn't clicking as well as the changeup," Urías said. "I was able to use my changeup and slurve."
Urias has dominated the Mariners in both starts this season, which speaks volumes to this young pitcher on the rise.
Back on April 20 in Seattle, Urias sat down 12 batters without giving up a run which was thoroughly impressive. Urias's success was also due to having significant and consistent run support in this outing.
Max Muncy connected on a two-run homer in the bottom of the fifth inning for a commanding 4-1 lead. Later in the inning, Matt Beaty hit an RBI single to right field that scored Will Smith.
The Dodgers weren't done as Gavin Lux connected on a single to center that scored Chris Taylor.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, AJ Pollock singled to center that allowed Muncy to score, and that broke the soul of the Mariners who waved the white flag.
