5/21/21 LAS VEGAS - The Las Vegas Aces hosted the Los Angeles Sparks for their home season opener that featured two former Sparks players, Chelsea Gray and Riquna Williams, and came away with a 97-69 victory.
Las Vegas had three players that scored seventeen points, Jackie Young, A'ja Wilson, and Dearica Hamby. The Sparks' leading scorers were Nneka Ogwumike with 19-points, Cheney Ogwumike with 11-points, Kristi Toliver 9-points, and Nia Coffee 8-points.
The Aces led the Sparks in the first quarter 19-18 after a jump shot by Chelsea Gray. The Sparks' Nia Coffey had the Sparks down 25-20 to end the quarter. A'ja Wilson led all players in scoring with 8-points.
The Sparks trail the Aces by twelve points 32-20, after a layup by Dearica Hamby. The Aces led by twenty-one points 45-24 after Liz Cambage was foul on her made layup attempted and made her free throw with 4:13 left in the first half.
Nneka Oguwumike layup made the score 49-28. Te'a Cooper's three-pointer had the Sparks trailing the Aces 54-34 with 1:08 left in the first half. The Aces led the Sparks at halftime 56-26.
Hamby led the Aces in scoring with 13-points, Jackie Young 12-points, Wilson 10-points, and Gray 8-points. The Sparks' leading scorer was Kristi Toliver and Nneka Ogwumike, both with 9-points.
The Aces shot 56.4 percent making 22 of their 39 shots, and the Sparks shot 38.7 percent making 14-37 shots. The Sparks were outrebounded 23-14 by the Aces.
The Aces led in the third quarter 64-44 when Riquna Williams made a three-point shot. The Sparks trail the Aces by twenty-two points 72-50 with 1:03 left in the quarter. The Aces led at the end of the quarter 76-54.
Things didn't get better for the Sparks being down by twenty-six points 89-63 in the fourth quarter after a free throw by the Sparks Nia Coffee. The Aces beat the Sparks 95-69 for their second win of the season.
