Clippers beat Lakers 118-94 to move back into third place in Western Conference

5/7/21 LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Clippers (44-22), with a chance to move up in the playoff standings, beat the Los Angeles Lakers (37-28), 118-94, which is still trying to clinch a playoff spot in the Western Conference.


The Lakers were without the services of LeBron James and Dennis Schroder, both injured, and Anthony Davis played only nine minutes after he injured his ankle and had back spasms from falling on the sideline.


The Clippers led 8-4 in the first quarter after a three-pointer by Kawhi Leonard. The Lakers Kentavious Caldwell-Pope monster dunk had the Lakers down 10-9. Marcus Morris Sr.'s three-pointer had the Clippers leading18-11.


The Lakers trail the Clippers by ten points 24-14, after a hook shot by Ivica Zubac with 4:00 left in the quarter. The Clippers DeMarcus Cousin came into the game and got into the scoring, made a layup making the score 29-16.

The Clippers led the Lakers at the end of the quarter 29-20. Leonard led the Clippers in scoring with 7-points, and the Lakers Kyle Kuzma was their leading scorer with 9-points.


The Lakers Ben McLemore had his team in striking distance trail the Clippers 33-27 in the second quarter. Paul George's three-point shot had the Clippers leading 42-29, forcing the Lakers to call a timeout with 7:59 left in the first half.


Cousin continues to give the Clippers a huge lift off the bench, made back-to-back baskets that made the score 49-32. The Lakers were down by twenty points, 54-34, after George made three free throws after being foul on his three-point shot attempt.


Morris Sr. made a basket with 2:28 left in the first half that had the Clippers leading 59-38. The Clippers led the Lakers at halftime by twenty-three points, 65-42.


George was the leading scorer for the Clippers with 12-points, followed by Cousin with 11-points, and Morris Sr. with 10-points. The Lakers' leading scorer was Kuzman with 15-points and Alex Caruso with 8-points.

The Clippers made 11 of 19 shots from the three-point arc, shooting 57.8%, and the Lakers were just 4 of 13 from the three-point arc, 30.8%.


The Clippers led the Lakers 73-52 after Zubac made an alley-oop layup in the third quarter. Kuzma three-pointer had the Lakers down 86-65 with 2:02 left in the quarter. The Clippers ended the quarter leading 92-71.


The Lakers trail the Clippers in the fourth quarter 98-78 when Alfonzo McKinnie's layup. Leonard made a driving layup that made the score 106-84. The Clippers went on to beat the Lakers 118-94.


George led the Clippers in scoring with 24-points, Leonard 15-points, Zubac 14-points, and Cousin and Rondo both with 11-points. Kuzma led the Lakers in scoring with 25-points, Montrezl Harrell 14-points, and Andre Drummond, McKinnie, and McLemore all had 9-points.


The Clippers (45-22), with the win, moved in front of the Denver Nuggets (44-22) for third place in the Western Conference. The Clippers will host the New York Knicks (37-29) on Sunday Mothers' Day.
