6/14/22 LOS ANGELES, CA - Los Angeles Dodgers closer Craig Kimbrel needed one more out with bases loaded in the ninth inning to preserve the 2-0 victory over their cross-town rivals, the Los Angeles Angels.

Kimbrel reached back and threw a 96 MPH four-seam fastball to strike out Max Stassi to secure the win Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium.

Starter Tony Gonsolin pitched 6.1 scoreless innings, gave up one hit, and struck out six batters to improve to (8-0) on the season.

"I definitely wanted to stay out there," Gonsolin said. "When it's my day to pitch, I've got to go as long as I can."

Noah Syndergaard (4-5) went four innings for the Angels and finished with five strikeouts while walking three batters.

The Dodgers took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning when Justin Turner walked with bases loaded. Freddie Freeman scored from third base.

Mookie Betts gave the Dodgers an insurance run in the eighth inning with a 395-foot home run to left field. It was Betts's 17th home run of the season.

After Mike Trout reached base with a broken-bat single, Shohei Ohtani doubled to center field. Matt Duffy walked to load the bases with one out. Kimbrel struck out Jared Walsh and Stassi to record his 12th save of the season.

The Angel's third baseman Anthony Rendon exited the game in the fifth inning after re-aggravating his right wrist. Interim manager Phil Nevin said it simply flared up on him.

"It's going to be a day-to-day thing," Nevin said. "We knew that coming in. Today wasn't a good day for it."

The Angels will send rookie left-handed Reid Detmers (2-2) to the mound for the Wednesday game. The Dodgers will give Tyler Anderson (7-0) the start. For more photos from this game, click on the link below. #mlb #ladodgers #losangelesdodgers #losangelesangels #tonygonsolin #mookiebetts #tgsportstv1
