Mavs beat the Clippers 105-100 for the third time at Staple Center

6/3/21 LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Clippers tied the series 2-2 in Texas but lost 105-100 for the third time in the Western Conference Playoffs against the Dallas Mavericks at the Staple Center.

Paul George led the Clippers in scoring with 23-points, Kawhi Leonard and Reggie Jackson 20-points, and Marcus Morris Sr. with 16-points. Luka Doncic led the Mavs in scoring with 42-points and Tim Hardaway Jr. with 20-points.

The Mavs led 9-0 in the first quarter after Marcus Morris Sr., and Paul George made three-point shots trail the Mavs 9-6. Reggie Jackson tied the game 9-9 with a three-pointer.

Dorian Finney-Smith made a three-pointer that gave the Mavs a 14-9 lead. Jackson's reverse-layup gave the Clippers a 17-16 lead. Luka Doncic's three-pointer gave the Mavs the lead back 24-19.

Doncic made a step-back three-point shot gave the Mavs a ten-point lead over the Clippers, 31-21 with 2:39 left in the quarter. Terance Mann driving jump shot in the key made the score 33-25.

Kawhi Leonard drove the baseline and made a layup making the score 33-27. Doncic layup at the end of the quarter had the Mavs leading 35-28.

Nicolas Batum made two free throws had the Clippers trailing by one point in the second quarter, 35-34. Boban Marjanovic's layup had the Mavs leading 42-38.

Ivica Zubac went up for a rebound on a missed shot and went back up with a one-hand dunk and was foul by Marjanovic, and his free throw made the score 46-44. Leonard tied the game 46-46 with a jump shot.

Leonard and George led the Clippers in scoring with 11-points, Morris Sr. 10-points, and Batum with 8-points. Doncic had 27-points for the Mavs on 10 of 19 shooting and 5 of 7 from the three-point line.

The Clippers led the Mavs in the third quarter 67-62 after Leonard made a three-point shot and the Mavs called another timeout. Jackson's three-pointer had the Clippers leading 70-64.

Doncic's jump shot had the Mavs down 72-69 with 4:49 left in the quarter, and the Clippers called a timeout. The Mavs regain the lead 73-72 after a layup by Tim Hardaway Jr.

The Mavs led by five points 80-75 after a layup by Doncic. The Clippers' offense in the last two minutes of the quarter went cold shooting.

The Mavs were hot, led 87-75 with a three-pointer by Doncic with 52.2 left in the quarter. The Clippers trail the Mavs at the end of the quarter by fourteen points 89-75. Doncic had 40-points to close out the quarter.

Batum's two-hand dunk had the Clippers down by ten points, 93-83 in the fourth quarter. George had the Clippers within four points after his basket made the score 95-91.

The Clippers trail the Mavs 101-100 with 39.5 left in the game and had a golden opportunity to win the game at the end when Batum's shot inside the key didn't fall. Tim Hardaway Jr. made a pair of free throws with 8.8 seconds left in the game, making the score 103-100.

Josh Richardson's two free throws help the Mavs secure a 105-100 victory over the Clippers to take a 3-2 lead in the Western Conference Playoffs heading back to Dallas for Game 6.

The Clippers will have to go back and win in Dallas again to force a Game 7 back at the Staple Center in the first round of the Western Conference Playoffs.

"You know, we got our own two on their home floor and won two tough games," Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue said. "We're gonna have to do the same thing again."

The Clippers just missed some wide-open shots that would normally fall for them, and turnovers down the stretch didn't make it easier for Leonard and the Clippers to swallow to lose for the third time at the Staple Center for the Clippers.

"I'm definitely disappointed in the loss, but we have confidence in ourselves being able to go out and get another win," Kawhi Leonard said. "Like I said, we're just focused on the next one and we're gonna see what we can do better."
