6/30/22 LOS ANGELES, CA - Justin Turner had a hot bat tonight, delivering two home runs to help the Los Angeles Dodgers (47-28) beat the San Diego Padres (46-32) at Dodgers Stadium 3-1.

Mitch White, the starting pitcher for the Dodgers, pitched 4.2 innings and gave up only one run, and the Padres starting pitcher Joe Musgrove pitched 7.0 innings and gave up five hits and three runs.

The Padres took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning after Manny Machado got to third base and Nomar Mazara hit a single to center-field to bring him home for the score.

The Padres had a chance to get more runs in the top of the second inning with one out, but Jurickson Profar hit a sacrifice fly ball to right field, and Trent Grisham had tagged up from the third base, was thrown out by Chris Taylor at home plate.

The Dodgers tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning when Justin Turner hit a solo home run over the center-field wall.

The Dodgers manager Dave Roberts knows that his third baseman has been in a hitting slump but stays with him because he has delivered before in big games for him.

Turner is the type of player who keeps grinding away while putting in the work and hasn't hit a home run since May 18.

''I haven't felt great, but you still show up every day and try to help the team,'' Turner said. ''Eventually, you feel like it's going to click.''

Justin Turner gave the Dodgers a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning after hitting a two-run home run over the right-center field wall with Max Muncy on base.

"That's as good of a swing as I've seen him take this year, going to the big part of the field, late at night, and for a home run," Roberts said of Turner's second homer of the night. "He's been trending in the right direction for quite some time, in my opinion."

Dave Roberts went to his bullpen using Justin Bruihl, Evan Phillips, Alex Vesia, and Craig Kimbrel, who has had some shaky outings, to pick up his 14th save against the Padres.
