7/15/22 ANAHEIM, CA - Clayton Kershaw had a perfect game through seven innings, 21 up and 21 down, before giving up a double to Luis Rengifo in the top of the eighth inning.

The Los Angeles Dodgers opened the freeway series with a dominating 9-1 win over the Los Angeles Angels Friday night at Angels Stadium.

"I really wanted to do it," Kershaw said. "It would've been really fun for everybody involved, the way everybody played tonight. The offense was unbelievable."

Kershaw is the only Major League Baseball pitcher in the last 40 years to have a perfect game through at least 7.0 innings twice in the same season.

"He's a future Hall of Famer, and he had his best stuff working tonight against a team that hasn't been swinging the bats very well," Angels manager Phil Nevin said. "You could tell from the beginning he had a few pitches working for him."
