7/20/21 LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Dodgers (58-36) trail the San Francisco Giants (58-34) by one game, open up their four-game series against their rivals. The Giants beat the Dodgers 7-2 to take the first game of the series.

Tony Gonsolin (1-1) was the starting pitcher, went 3.1 innings, gave up five hits, three runs, and two home runs. Kevin Gausman for the Giants pitched 3.0 innings, two runs, three hits, and two home runs.

Gonsolin gave up back-to-back home runs to the Giants, a two-run by Buster Posey and a solo home run by Wilmer Flores that made the score 3-0 in the top of the first inning.

Max Muncy made the score 3-1 in the bottom of the first inning after hitting a monster home run over the right-field wall.

Justin Turner added to the scoring with a solo home run over the center-field fence, and the Dodgers now trail the Giants 3-2.

Everyone knew this would be a dog fight series for both teams, with the Giants having the best record in baseball.

"It's a really well-balanced team," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of the Giants. "They can pitch, they catch the baseball, they take professional at-bats and they've played really well all year long. They've earned that right to have the best record in baseball. We've got our hands full. It's going to be a fun series."

The Dodgers continued to leave men on base in scoring position, missed a golden opportunity to take the lead, and put more runs on the scoreboard with the bases loaded in the bottom of the second inning with Chris Taylor, Max Muncy, and Justin Turner.

The Giants played some great defense and Kevin Gausman was able to get out of the jam by striking out Will Smith for the final out.

The Giants led 4-2 in the top of the seventh inning after Jason Vosler hit a sacrifice fly ball to right-field, and Buster Posey came home to score.

Moments later, Thairo Estrada doubled into left-field, and Alex Dickerson and Donovan Salano came home, and the Giants now led 6-2.

Austin Slater would knock in the final run, doubled into right-field, and Estrada came home to make the score 7-2 as the Giants took the first game of the four-game series against the Dodgers.

The Dodgers will have to take on the Giants pitcher Alex Wood (8-3) on Tuesday and hopefully can get some more run production.
