LAFC remains atop the Western Conference with its fourth straight win

7/29/22 LOS ANGELES, CA - Los Angeles FC scored two first-half goals and won its fourth straight match with a 2-1 victory over visiting Seattle Sounders Friday night at Banc of California Stadium.

LAFC remains atop the Major League Soccer standings with a 15-4-3 record and 48 points. The Black and Gold are seven points ahead of Austin FC in the Western Conference.

"An exciting evening, a full house, an amazing atmosphere, and I think it deserved a game like we saw," LAFC coach Steve Cherundolo said. "We're overjoyed to get these three points in beating a really good team."

Seattle led 1-0 in the 14th minute when a cross from Cristian Roldan was deflected by LAFC defender Jesus Murillo into the net for a goal.

LAFC got the equalizer in the 35th minute when Kwadwo Opoku sent in a left-footed shot from just outside the box for his fifth goal of the season.

"The feeling is great to score goals," Opoku said. "They are a good team, and we fougth and got the two points."

Carlos Vela gave LAFC a 2-1 lead in the 43rd minute on a sliding left-footed from a cross by Jose Cinfuemtes. It was Vela's seventh goal of the season and 74th with LAFC.

The win featured the home debuts of Giorgio Chiellini and Gareth Bale.

LAFC returns to play on Wednesday, Aug 3, when they take on Club America in the Leagues Cup Showcase at Sofi Stadium.
