7/30/20 Orlando, FL - The NBA season return with two of the top teams in the Western Conference the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers going head-to-head.
The Lakers’ LeBron James made the game-winning shot, as Lakers held on to beat the Clippers 103-101. With the win, the Lakers tied the series 2-2 with seven games left in the regular season.
The game lived up to all the hype with the four supers stars playing, Lakers Anthony Davis scored 34 points 8 rebounds, LeBron James 16 points, and the Clippers Paul George with 30 points, and Kawhi Leonard 28 points.
The Clippers were short-handed without two of their role players Lou Williams, and Montrezl Harrell still had opportunities to win the game after committing 16 turnovers that led to 29 points the Lakers.
The Lakers in the first quarter came out a little rusty, and the Clippers came out sluggish trailed the Lakers at the end of the first quarter 35-23 with the Lakers Anthony Davis scoring 14 points, and the Clippers Paul George 8 points.
The Clippers managed to get back in the game in the second quarter playing much better defense, and Kawhi Leonard 19 points, Reggie Jackson 10 points, and the poor shooting by LeBron James 2 for 9 with 6 points, only trail the Lakers at half time by two-points 54-52.
In the third quarter, the Lakers' poor shooting continued going 0-9 at the start, the Clippers took advantage of it with a 66-55 lead before the Lakers rally with Davis already with 32 points, and James 9 points in the game were down 77-76 at the end of the quarter.
The game went down to wire with the game tied 101-101 after a three-pointer by George. James drove into the lane and pulled up for a jumper, and with no Clippers boxing out James with 12.8 seconds in the game, got the rebound and made a put-back basket to give the Lakers a 103-101 victory over the Clippers.
"It felt like a real game to me, two teams battling. ... Can't complain about the first game," Davis said.
The Lakers' top scorers off the bench were Kyle Kuzman 16 points, and Dion Waiters 11 points, and the Clippers' Patrick Beverly 12 points and JaMycal Green 8 points.
"We can't have self-inflicted wounds, and I thought we had too many of them," said Clippers coach Doc Rivers, whose team — which remains short-handed with Lou Williams still in quarantine and Montrezl Harrell tending to a family matter — gave up 29 points off turnovers.
With the win, the Lakers improve to (50-14), and the Clippers fell to (44-21) on the season.
