8/15/21 INGLEWOOD, CA - The Los Angeles Rams squared off against the Los Angeles Chargers at So-Fi Stadium as the host team for their first preseason game with the bragging rights of Los Angeles came up short and lost 13-6.

None of the starters for the Rams or Chargers played, giving the guys trying to make the final roster cut an opportunity to showcase their talents in front of a live crowd to kick off the preseason.

The Rams quarterback Bryce Perkins was one of the bright-side for head coach Sean McVay completing 7 of 10 passes for 42-yards and one touchdown. I asked coach McVay about the fans being there at So-Fi Stadium and the energy he felt.

“It was outstanding, really. You just realized how much the fans create that energy, that atmosphere that makes this game so special. And being here last year in the absence of fans, you really appreciate it even that much more. It gives you that perspective. It was really exciting tonight. Looking forward to seeing another good atmosphere next week against Las Vegas. And then I can't lie but you're getting really excited about what September 12 is going to look like.”

The Chargers won the coin toss and chose to receive the ball, and Chase Daniel took the field for the first series.

The Rams defense held the Chargers in the red zone in the first quarter to a 21-yard field goal by Tristan Vizcaino to take a 3-0 lead.

Devlin Hodges started at quarterback for the Rams couldn't get their offense going, and the Rams had to punt the ball on their first series of the game.

In the second quarter, Bryce Perkins took over as the quarterback for the Rams, connected with wide-receiver Trishton Jackson on a 4-yard touchdown pass to give the Rams a 6-3 lead with 3:18 left in the first half.

The Chargers tied the game 6-6 with a 38-yard field goal by Vizcaino with 22 seconds left in the game before halftime. The Rams took a knee to end the second quarter.

Hodges for the Rams completed 6 of 8 passes for 33-yards and Perkins 5 of 6 passes for 33-yards and one touchdown.

The leading rusher for the Rams was Xavier Jones, who carried the ball four times for 13-yards, and Joshua Kelly eight times for 19-yards for the Chargers.

Jacob Harris led the Rams in receiving with three catches for 30-yards, Titu Atwell two catches for 21-yards and, Trishton Jackson two catches for 7-yards and one touchdown.

The Chargers regained the lead 13-6 in the third quarter, after a 1-yard touchdown run by Darius Bradwell. Hodges was in for the Rams at quarterback.

The Rams had a chance in the fourth quarter to even tie the game or take the lead, marched down to the Chargers 31-yard line, but on third-down, Perkins pass was incomplete to Jacob Harris to kill any hopes of a comeback, and the Rams had to punt.

Hodges finish the game by completing 11 of 19 passes for 85-yards for the Rams and Daniel completing 15 of 24 passes and 104-yards for the Chargers.
