8/21/21 LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Dodgers have powered their way to nine consecutive wins after getting home runs from Trea Turner, Albert Pujols, and Chris Taylor in a 4-3 win over the New York Mets on Saturday at Dodger Stadium.

Max Scherzer (11-4) picked up his third win as a Dodger and closer Kenley Jansen pitched the ninth inning to get his 27th save of the season. The Dodgers are 1.5 games out of first place.

"We keep grinding. We keep making pitches," Jansen said. "If we click, and we are clicking right now, nobody can stop us. We've just got to continue to do this and do us and continue to focus for the big prize."

Trea Turner opened the scoring with a leadoff solo home run in the bottom of the first inning. It was Turner's first home run as a Dodger. After Max Muncy flew out to center-field, Albert Pujols hit a 406-foot solo home run to give the Dodgers an early 2-0 lead.

Chris Taylor extended the lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning with a solo home run to center field. The Mets cut the lead to 3-1 on Brandon Nimmo's solo home run in the top of the fifth inning. New York had bases loaded with two outs but Scherzer struck out J.D. Davies to end the inning. Scherzer gave up one run on five hits and struck out eight.

"Things were kind of spinning out of control. In that situation, you just want to execute and get them out," Scherzer said. "Things are going sideways, just collect yourself and execute the pitches that you need to."

Pete Alonso hit a two-run home run off the Dodgers reliever Blake Treinen in the top of the seventh inning to trim the lead 4-3. After Jansen hit Kevin Pillar to lead off the ninth, he got Nimmo to ground out and struck out Jeff McNeil and Alonso to secure the win.

"He's throwing the baseball really well," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. "(Friday and today) the ball was coming out of his hand well. Obviously, you don't want to hit the leadoff batter. Kenley found a way to get the outs. I've really got a lot of confidence in him."

David Price (4-1) will get the start in the series finale for the Dodgers. The Mets will send Marcus Stroman (8-12) to the mound. #mlb #ladodgers #newyorkmets #mets #losangelesdodgers #maxscherzer #tgsportstv1
