Dodgers bounce back after loss to the Rockies to beat the Braves 5-3

8/31/21 LOS ANGELES, CA - The Los Angeles Dodgers (82-49), lost to the Colorado Rockies 5-0 on Sunday Night now trail the San Francisco Giants by 1 1/2 games after bouncing back to beat the Atlanta Braves 5-3 at Dodgers Stadium on Monday Night.

Julio Urias got his 15th win of the season to lead MLB in wins, pitched six innings, gave up two runs, and had seven strikeouts.

"This is my first season with so many innings. I've never pitched this much before in my big league career," said Urías, who now has 150 2/3 innings. "Physically and mentally, I feel good."

The Braves Drew Smyly pitched 4.2 innings, gave up nine hits, allowed five runs, and struck out five batters.

It was Mookie Betts Bobble-Head Night at Dodgers Stadium, and his mom threw the first pitch of the ceremonial event before the game, and after the game was over, the fans weren't disappointed.

Max Muncy hit a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning over the right-field wall to give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead.

Will Smith continues his hot hitting with a solo home run over the left-field wall in the bottom of the second inning to give the Dodgers a 2-0 lead.

During the game, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was keeping tabs on the game between the Milwaukee Brewers and the San Francisco Giants.

"I was aware of what was going on," Roberts said. "But that's just part of being a competitor, which we all are, and being a fan, which we all are. But our main focus is, obviously, winning this game against the Braves."

Mookie Betts gave the Dodgers a 3-0 lead after hitting a solo home run in the bottom of the third inning over left-field. The Dodgers led 5-0 after Corey Seager hit a two-run home run over the left-center-field wall.

The Braves finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning, after Jorge Soler's home run over the right-field wall made the score 5-1.

Moments later, the Braves trail 5-2 when Freddie Freeman hit a solo home run over the right-center-field wall.

The Braves added another run to their total 5-3 after the Dodgers relief pitcher Phil Bickford gave up a solo home run to Adam Duvall over the right-field wall in the top of the seventh inning.

Blake Treinen for the Dodgers in the top of the ninth inning got Austin Riley to ground out, Travis d'Arnaud to fly out to Chris Taylor, and Stephen Vogt to fly out to Cody Bellinger to pick up his 5th save.
