9/10/21 LOS ANGELES, CA - Julio Urias pitched seven strong shutout innings as the Dodgers defeated the San Diego Padres on a warm Friday evening 3-0.

The Dodgers captured their 15th shutout of the season and remain 2 1/2 games behind the first-place Giants in the National League West.

Mookie Betts connected with a single in the bottom of the third inning, off of Padres starter Joe Musgrove.

Later, Max Muncy connected on his 32nd home run to right field that gave Los Angeles a 2-0 lead. Chris Taylor hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning and Will Smith scored, and Los Angeles led 3-0.

With adequate offensive production, Urias remained rock solid on the mound as he finished with seven strikeouts, one walk on three hits in seven innings of work.

Urias recorded his 17th win of the season and hasn't lost a start since June 21, ironically against the Padres in San Diego.

"It was really important for us to get ahead of this series," Urías said through a translator. "On a personal note, very great to get those victories."

The Dodgers' defense was sharp as a Ginsu, as Taylor made an incredible against Will Myers in the fourth inning. Later in the fifth inning, Taylor made a highlight catch that robbed Manny Machado of a possible two-run homer.

"I thought he hit out. I was just hoping it would stay in the ballpark, and CT made a really nice play," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said.

Musgrove gave up three runs and four hits in six innings of work in the loss for San Diego.

"Just didn't have a great arsenal to work with. The walks obviously hurt me a lot," a frustrated Musgrove said. "Just a lot of wasted pitches, a lot of extended innings. Underperforming the last month and a half has really set us back."

On Saturday night, the Dodgers will send Walker Buehler to the mound against the Padres Chris Paddack.
