9/15/19 OAKLAND, CA - The Oakland Raiders were looking to go up (2-0) in the AFC West, but the Kansas City Chiefs offense exploded in the second quarter to help defeat the Raiders 28-10.
Derek Carr threw for one touchdown and two interceptions, finished the night throwing for 198-yards after completing 23 of his 38 passes. The leading rusher for the Raiders was Josh Jacobs with 99-yards.
The Chiefs' quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for 443-yards and four touchdowns after completing 30 of his 44 passes connecting with three different receivers for touchdowns.
In the first quarter, the Raiders scored first after Daniel Carlson kicked a 28-yard field goal to give them a 3-0 lead. Moments later, Carr threw a 4-yard touchdown pass, to Tyrell Williams increasing the Raiders lead to 10-0.
In the second quarter, the Chiefs bounced back when Mahomes connected with Demarcus Robinson on a 44-yard touchdown catch to trail the Raiders 10-7. Mahomes threw his second touchdown of the night after Melcole Hardman caught a 42-yard touchdown pushing the Chiefs lead up to 14-10.
The Raiders defense had no answer for Mahomes, found another receiver tight-end Travis Kelce open for a 27-yard touchdown catch now led the Raiders 21-10.
The final dagger for the Raiders still in the second quarter came when Mahomes threw his fourth touchdown of the night to Robinson on a 39-touchdown catch, his second of the night as the Raiders were down 28-10 going into halftime.
Late in the third quarter, Carr had the Raiders in scoring position inside the Chiefs' 10-yard line, threw a slant pass into the endzone but his receiver never broke to the inside and was pick-off in the endzone by the Chiefs cornerback Bashaud Breeland.
Kansas City with the win improved their record to (2-0) and Oakland fell to (1-1). The Raiders' next game will be in Minnesota to take on the Vikings.
