9/2/20 Los Angeles, Ca - MLB best team this season is the Los Angeles Dodgers with a record of (27-10) tonight was hosting the Arizona Diamondbacks (14-22). Walker Buehler (1-0) was back from the injury list took the mound against the Diamondbacks Zac Gallen (1-0).
The Dodgers' Justin Turner and Cody Bellinger, two of their best offensive weapons, didn't play tonight because both of them were on the injury reserve list.
At the top of the 2nd inning, Buehler pitched himself out of a jam with runners on 1st, and the 3rd base got the next two batters Nick Ahmed and Daulton Varsho, to pop out.
The Diamondbacks got on the scoreboard first in the top of the 6th inning when Christan Walker hit a solo home run to give them a 1-0 lead. The Dodgers escape the inning just giving up one run after the Dbacks left men on 1st and second base with two outs.
The Dodgers in the bottom of the 8th had a golden opportunity to get back in the game after Joc Pederson got on base with no outs, but the Diamondbacks got out of it with a double play.
Mookie Betts' solo home run, his 12th of the season tied the game 1-1 in the bottom of the 9th inning off of Kevin Ginkel. Moments later, Corey Seager doubles into center-field with one out, but the Diamondbacks' Ginkel was able to retire the next two batters.
At the top of the 10th inning, Jansen had allowed two batters to get on base and hit Ketel Marte with a pitch to load the bases. The Diamondbacks regained the lead 2-1 after Kenley Jansen walked Walker and Vaesho scored.
After the walk, with the bases still loaded several times, Jansen regained control of his pitches and limited the damage to just one run.
At the bottom of the 10th inning, Chris Taylor laid down a perfect bunt back to the pitcher Junior Guerra, and his throw to third base was off and end the dirt that allowed Max Muncy to tied the game 2-2.
The next batter up was Will Smith, who singled to left-field, knocked in Seager to give the Dodgers a 3-2 win over the Diamondbacks, and improved their record to (28-10).
“I thought it was a really well-played baseball game,” said manager Dave Roberts. “We’re so used to home runs and offense; to get pitchers making pitches and defensive plays, low scoring, where every pitch and baserunner matters, I thought it was a fun game to be part of.”
Tonight's game was a pitcher duo between the Diamondbacks' Gallen pitching seven innings and no runs scored, and Buehler five scoreless innings with six strikeouts and walked only one.
