10/27/21 LOS ANGELES - LAFC increased its playoff chances with a 3-0 win over the league-leader Seattle Sounders on Tuesday night at Banc of California Stadium. The shutout helped LAFC move into a playoff spot at seventh place in the Western Conference with two regular-season games left.
Brian Rodriquez and Latin Blessing scored goals in the first half, and Cristian Arango added a goal in the second half to preserve the victory and remain in the playoff hunt.
"It's a great win," LAFC coach Bob Bradley said. "A lot of guys stepped up. You need everybody to give you everything they have. It's great to see."
Brian Rodriquez put LAFC on the board in the 21st minute when his right-footed shot from the center of the box found the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. Raheem Edwards got the assist with a through ball that Rodriquez converted.
During the first-half stoppage time, Latif Blessing gave LAFC a 2-0 lead on a goal from a deflected pass. His shot from close range to the top right corner was Blessing's second goal of the season.
"We have to keep going, and there are two more games to go," Blessing said. "When I scored, I was happy, but still I'm not happy. We have to win two more games. That's important, but I'm happy to score today."
Cristian Arango extended the lead in the 51st minute with his seventh goal in 13 games. Arango's right-footed shot from outside the box gave LAFC a 3-0 lead.
"I decided to take a shot because, in the first half, I didn't have an opportunity," Arango said. "So I decided to take a shot from long range, and thankfully it went in. "We were able to get the result, and I'm very happy for that."
The loss keeps the Sounders just three points ahead of second-place Sporting Kansas City with two games remaining. Sporting KC has four games left, including a game against the Los Angeles Galaxy on Wednesday. #mls #lafc #brianrodriquez #bancofcaliforniastadium #seattlesounders #tgsportstv1 #mlssoccer
