LOS ANGELES, CA - It was Jackie Robinson’s Day at Dodger Stadium, where teams across America celebrated the legend by wearing his jersey #42 as a symbol of respect. The Dodgers beat the New York Mets 8-2 to sweep the three-game series.
Three of the UCLA Bruins National Championship team were in the house: Kiki Rice, Amanda Muse, and Angela Dugalic, who were celebrated by the fans, and Rice had the honor of throwing the first pitch.
The moment of the game wasn’t the two teams playing, but I had a chance to talk with one of the greatest players to ever wear a Dodgers uniform, one-on-one with the living legend, Manny Mota, who shared his story of how Jackie Robinson impacted his life, and the game of baseball in MLB, in the video below.
Shohei Ohtani was on the mound as the starting pitcher for Los Angeles, threw 6.0 innings, 2 hits, 1 run, and 10 strikeouts, but wasn’t in the lineup as the DH.
"I thought that just channeling all that energy into pitching was helpful," manager Dave Roberts said. "The last couple of outings, I felt he was fighting himself a little bit at times. But tonight he was really good. I think even that, the fifth inning got a little bit wonky, but he kind of reined it back in and then came back out for the sixth."

Teoscar Hernandez gave the Dodgers a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning with a solo home run over the right-center field wall.
Los Angeles increased their lead in the bottom of the eighth inning to 7-1, thanks to a grand slam by Dalton Rushing over the center field wall, and Hernandez, Max Muncy, and Andy Pages all scored. Kyle Tucker would score the final run for the Dodgers, making the score 8-1 with a solo home run over right field.
New York would score the final run of the game, and dropped the third game of the series 8-2 after Marcus Semien hit a single to center field, and Bo Bichette scored.
