The Sparks’ defense couldn’t slow down Caitlin Clark and the Fever and loss 87-78

LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Sparks fell to (0-2) after Caitlin Clark with 24 points, Kelsey Mitchell with 23 points, and Sophia Cunningham with 12 points helped the Indiana Fever (1-1) come away with an 87-78 victory at the Crypto.com Arena.
Kelsey Plum led the Sparks in scoring with 25 points, Dearica Hamby with 16, Cameron Brink with 11, and Rae Burrell and Nneka Ogwumike both with 10. Los Angeles had 19 turnovers, which was too much to overcome.
Ogwumike would tie the game 7-7 with a three-pointer from the top of the key. Indiana would regain the lead 9-7 after Clark drove to the basket for a layup. The Sparks trailed 22-20 when Plum drove down the middle of the lane and scored with a finger roll. The Fever led at the end of the first quarter, 24-20, after Mitchell scored on a layup.

Indiana led 32-26 in the second quarter with a three-pointer by Mitchell. Los Angeles trailed by ten points, 38-28, with a driving layup by Cameron Brink. The Sparks trailed at halftime by fourteen points, 48-34, after a missed three-pointer by Brink. Mitchell led the Fever in scoring with 17 points, followed by Clark with 11 points.
Los Angeles’ offense just couldn’t get going against Indiana’s defense in the third quarter, now trailing 56-39, after a turnaround fade-away jump shot by Ogwumike.
After the Sparks ran off thirteen points, now down 66-52, after Hamby, off the dribble, drove to the basket and scored on a finger roll, as the Fever ended the quarter leading 68-52 with a layup by Tyasha Harris.
The Sparks would outscore the Fever in the fourth quarter 26-21, but just dug a hole they couldn’t crawl out of, for their second loss to start the season. Los Angeles will host the Toronto Tempo at home on Friday. For more photos from this game click on the game photos tab below.
